Maison Crivelli Ambre Chromatique is a rich amber-spicy Extrait de Parfum created by Quentin Bisch and released in 2022. Dense resins and glowing vanilla form its foundation, but an unusual combination of pink pepper, incense, osmanthus and davana gives the fragrance a much more colorful, textured personality than a traditional sweet amber.
The opening immediately contrasts pink pepper with incense. Pink pepper provides a sparkling, rosy spice while incense introduces a darker, smoky and mineral quality. The effect is simultaneously bright and shadowy—like glowing embers surrounded by curling trails of smoke.
At the heart, osmanthus and davana change the fragrance’s texture. Osmanthus brings soft apricot-like floral nuances with a subtle leathery undertone, while davana contributes an aromatic, fruity and slightly boozy richness. Together they give the amber an almost liquefied quality rather than allowing it to become simply resinous.
The base becomes considerably deeper with benzoin, Bourbon vanilla and Akigalawood. Benzoin provides balsamic sweetness and an almost caramelized warmth, Bourbon vanilla adds creamy richness, and Akigalawood contributes a peppery, patchouli-like woody darkness. The result is powerful, warm and enveloping while retaining the spicy contrasts established in the opening.
Ambre Chromatique feels like entering an old perfumer’s laboratory illuminated entirely by candlelight—pink pepper scattered across stone, glowing amber resins beside smoldering incense and mysterious botanical extracts lining the shelves. As the smoke rises, Bourbon vanilla and benzoin begin to melt into the woods beneath them, creating something simultaneously fiery, sweet, smoky and almost alchemical.
